Developed in the 1880’s the Salt Lake Valley is noted for its extensive irrigation canals, that convey water from mountain streams and Utah Lake throughout the valley using a series of canals running parallel to the Jordan River. The picture above is from West Jordan during the winter time, after the fall harvest when water is no longer needed. While in the past the water was used primarily for growing crops, now serves a largely residential homes, with orchards, lawns, landscaping and gardens.

A view of Lower Bell Canyon Reservoir in the Fall.  Bell Canyon sits just to the south of Little Cottonwood Canyon, in the Wasatch Mountains of northern Utah. The reservoir itself sits in the foothills above the city of Sandy, one of many communities in the Salt Lake Valley. The hike to the reservoir is a fairly short and enjoyable one, while more extended hikes can be had to Bell Canyon Falls, and Upper Bell Canyon Reservoir farther up the canyon.

Salt Lake City Masonic Temple Sphinx, with a marble globe of the world between its feet. The Temple is the Masonic headquarters for Utah, and is an example of Egyptian Revival Architecture. It was completed in 1927, and is located in the South Temple Historic District of Salt Lake City, Utah.
