It was founded by James Harrod, a pioneer, soldier, and hunter who helped explore and settle the area west of the Allegheny Mountains. Its residents included Squire Boone, the younger brother of Daniel Boone.

The historic Yates cabin, built in the 1840’s. The cabin was moved to higher ground at its present location in the early 1980’s, in advance of the filling of Taylorsville Lake. The lake is located southeast of Louisville, Kentucky, the state’s largest city.
