A field of American flags flying on a warm summer day in West Jordan, Utah. This was a celebration of VE-day (Victory in Europe Day during World War 2 (WWII). But it could just as easily have been from Memorial Day or Veterans Day. A common sight across the United States on those special days when we honor the sacrifice of military veterans during their service in war and peace.

The American Legion Mall at Sunset in Indianapolis, Indiana. The cenotaph seen in the foreground memorializes the nation’s first casualty of World War I, Corporal James B. Gresham of Company F, 16th Infantry and Evansville Indiana. Extending out further are memorials to World War II, Korea and Vietnam. As well as the World War Memorial.

The American Legion is a non-profit organization dedicated to U.S. war veterans, whose headquarters border the American Legion Mall. The organization was formed in 1919 in Paris, France.
