Historic Daniel Arnold Homestead - Dayton - Ohio

A work shed, as seen in late spring, part the Daniel Arnold Homestead, a historic farm located Huber Heights, part of present day Dayton, Ohio. Daniel Arnold a German immigrant, came to the region in the 1830’s from Virginia, building first a cabin and then a large farm house in 1835. The historic Arnold farmstead is the center piece of Dayton’s Carriage Hill MetroPark, which offers both a museum and outdoor exploration opportunities in the surrounding pastures and woodlands. The homestead was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1977.

Miamsburg Adena Indian Mound – Ohio.

The Adena culture was a prehistoric Native American culture that existed from 500 BC to 100 AD. They resided in what is now the Eastern United States, focused primarily in Ohio, and parts of West Virginia and Kentucky, during a period known as the Early Woodland. They had a unique burial complex and ceremonial tradition, the largest visible sign of which are large earthen mounds spread across the landscape. They along with the Fort Ancient and Hopewell Cultures have come to be known as the Mound Builders, for their large earthworks.

Seal of the University of Cincinnati - Ohio

The Seal of the University of Cincinnati comes largely from the official insignia of the City of Cincinnati, which was adopted in 1819. The seal includes the scales of justice, a sword and a caduceus, which is the staff carried by Hermes in Greek Mythology, a god also known as Hermes Trismegistus, in Greco-Egyptian mythology. The staff includes two entwined serpents that includes wings. The mottos displayed include “Juncta Juvant” which means strength in unity, and “Alta Petit” seek the highest.

The University of Cincinnati, a public research university, was founded in 1819, and has an annual enrollment of 44,000 students. Its the second largest university in Ohio.
