POW-MIA Monument - Veterans Cemetery - Indiana

A POW-MIA Monument located at the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Madison, Indiana. The POW-MIA emblem pictured is the official symbol  of the National League of POW/MIA Families, which was created in 1970 to bring awareness to prisoners of war (POW) and those missing in action (MIA), from the Vietnam War. The more commonly seen flag, adopted in 1972, has since become a widely adopted symbol, visible at most military installations, US Post Offices, as well as federal and local government agencies, and veteran group posts and celebrations.  The slogan “You are not forgotten” was officially adopted by the National League of POW/MIA Families as their motto.

A field of American flags flying on a warm summer day in West Jordan, Utah. This was a celebration of VE-day (Victory in Europe Day during World War 2 (WWII). But it could just as easily have been from Memorial Day or Veterans Day. A common sight across the United States on those special days when we honor the sacrifice of military veterans during their service in war and peace.

The M60-A1 Main Battle Tank, seen on the Dixie Highway between West Point, and Fort Knox, Kentucky.  The M60 was developed from the M48 Patton beginning in 1959. The original design included an 105mm main gun. Over 15,000 were produced, with their largest deployment during the 1991 Gulf War. The US officially retired the M60 after Desert Storm, and the last in service were used by the National Guard in 1997. However a number of other countries still use the tank, with the largest being Egypt, with over 1,000 in operation. Other US tanks can be found on display at the George S. Patton Museum on the Fort Knox military base.
