A rock overhangs the road along the Nada Tunnel Road in the Red River Gorge, in a remote and rural part of Kentucky. The area is part of Daniel Boone National Forest and near to the Clifty Wilderness area.
An abandoned homestead in Brown County State Park near Nashville, Indiana. With poor, thin soils on hilly terrain, Brown County was one of the last places in Indiana to be settled. Farmers tried for years to make the area productive, but ultimately the vast majority began leaving the area during the Great Depression. At the same time a movement began to turn the area into a nature park. Today, Brown County, at more than 15,000 acres, is Indiana’s largest state park.

The water tower was built in 1860’s after the city gained a reputation as the “graveyard of the west”, for its polluted, and diseased (Cholera and Typhoid) water supply. The water tower, like Philadelphia’s Fairmount Water Works, was designed with a Roman temple-like exterior to mask the industrial pumping station within the building. The building resides along the banks of the Ohio River on the edge of downtown Louisville. It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1971.
