The floral clock on the grounds of the Kentucky State Capitol in Frankfort. The clock was constructed in 1961 following an appropriation by the governor at that time, Burt T. Combs. The clocks construction was a joint project between the state government and the Garden Club of Kentucky. For a time after its construction the clock was derided as waste of taxpayers money, but it soon became the most visited tourist attraction in the state and attitudes ultimately changed. The clock is patterned after a similar clock that Combs’ saw while on a trip to Edinburgh, Scotland.

Sunset above Louisville, Kentucky, and the Historic Crescent Hill Reservoir. If you look closely the clouds appear in the form of Pegasus with wings and front legs included. Pegasus is the a mythical winged divine horse, and the offspring of Poseidon and Medusa in Greek Mythology.

Locust Grove was an 18th century farm founded by William Croghan and his wife Lucy Clark Croghan in 1790. Lucy Clark was the sister of George Rogers Clark a military officer and explorer who played an important part in the early history of Kentucky and Louisville. She is also the sister of William Clark, the famous explorer from the Lewis and Clark Expedition to America’s Pacific Northwest. The farm is notable as the place George Rogers Clark spent his final years, and for being adjacent to the property where Zachery Taylor, America’s 12th president grew up
