Locust Grove was an 18th century farm founded by William Croghan and his wife Lucy Clark Croghan in 1790. Lucy Clark was the sister of George Rogers Clark a military officer and explorer who played an important part in the early history of Kentucky and Louisville. She is also the sister of William Clark, the famous explorer from the Lewis and Clark Expedition to America’s Pacific Northwest. The farm is notable as the place George Rogers Clark spent his final years, and for being adjacent to the property where Zachery Taylor, America’s 12th president grew up.

The Seelbach is a historic hotel that opened in 1905 in Louisville, Kentucky. Built by brothers Louis and Otto Seelbach, the Seelbach was intended to be their version of a grand hotel, similar to what they were familiar with in European cities. The hotel was designed in the French Renaissance style, and has seen numerous notable guests over the years, including F. Scott Fitzgerald, who drew inspiration from his stay, and incorporated aspects of the hotel’s design in part of his novel the Great Gatsby. Other guests include Robin Williams, Elvis Presley, Russell Crowe, Julia Child and Donnie Wahlberg.

An elaborate wooden door in the historic Butchertown neighborhood of Louisville, Kentucky. Butchertown as the name might suggest was a old meat packing district within the city of Louisville, with houses dating back to the 1820. A number of these houses remain, many of them well cared for by current residents. Particular spots of interest are Washington St, and Story Ave, the latter of which was part of the old Louisville and Lexington Turnpike.
