LeVeque Tower, built in 1927. It was intentionally built to be 555 ft and 5 inches tall, 5 inches taller than the Washington Monument (hard for me to believe the WM is that tall). At the time of construction it was the tallest building in Columbus, OH, and remains the second highest skyscraper today. Designed by Howard Crane.

Seal of the Supreme Court of Ohio – Columbus

Seal of the Supreme Court of Ohio - Columbus

The engraved seal of the Supreme Court of Ohio, as it appears at the Thomas J. Moyer Ohio Judicial Center, in Columbus. The seal is also that of the State of Ohio. It depicts the sun rising over Mount Logan and the Scioto River, as seen from the estate of the Adena Mansion in Chillicothe.  Chillicothe is the site of the State’s first capitol, when it was part of the Northwest Territory. The seal also displays a cluster of 17 arrows and next to it a  sheaf of wheat of the same shape. The thirteen rays of light coming from the sunrise, represent America’s original 13 colonies.

Adena Mansion is also where the first earthen mound of the Native American Adena culture was found, and thus became the namesake of the culture itself.

An abandoned homestead in Brown County State Park near Nashville, Indiana. With poor, thin soils on hilly terrain, Brown County was one of the last places in Indiana to be settled. Farmers tried for years to make the area productive, but ultimately the vast majority began leaving the area during the Great Depression. At the same time a movement began to turn the area into a nature park. Today, Brown County, at more than 15,000 acres, is Indiana’s largest state park.
