Blackacre State Nature Preserve & Historic Homestead - Louisville, Kentucky

A historic farm house built in 1844, at the Blackacre State Nature Preserve. The historic Blackacre homestead was established south of present day Louisville, Kentucky by Edward Tyler, who provided wood planks, flour, and a courier service to the army of George Rogers Clark, during the American Revolutionary war. For his efforts, he was eventually given the land grant that would become the Blackacre farm seen today.

A number of outbuildings on the same property date back to the 1790’s.

Historic Louisville Public Library 2 – Kentucky

Historic Louisville Public Library – Kentucky

The historic Louisville Public Library Building, constructed in 1908. The structure includes classic greek and roman building elements, in a style known as Beaux Arts. This style developed in France in the 1830s. Funding for the original building came from the Carnegie Corporation of New York, as part of Andrew Carnegie’s philanthropic initiative to fund free public libraries throughout the United States.

The emphasis of the word “Library” in roman-like style is what drew me to this particular building. Located in Kentucky’s largest city.
