Historic Hillforest House – Aurora – Indiana
The historic Hillforest House (also known as the Thomas Gaff House) in Aurora, Indiana, is one of the best preserved examples of an Italian Renaissance estate house. The mansion was built in 1855 by Isaiah Rogers for Scottish-born businessman Thomas Gaff who earned his fortune shipping goods up and down the Ohio River on steamships. The mansion is located in the Downtown Aurora Historic District, and was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1992.
