A stylized view of the Handcart Pioneer Monument Statue by Torleif Soviren Knaphus. The monument is remembrance of Mormon pioneers who crossed the American West with little more than what could be carried in handicart similar to that pictured. Between 1846 and 1868, approximately 10% of the emigrants coming from the East. Most handcart pioneers were poor emigrants from Scotland, England, Wales and Scandinavia.
The statue is located at Temple Square in downtown Salt Lake City, Utah, on the south side, between the LDS Temple and the Tabernacle.
