One of the first cities in Kentucky, Danville was settled in 1783, and incorporated in 1787. It was originally called Crow’s Station after John Crow, one of the area’s first inhabitants. Ultimately the modern city was named after Walker Daniel, who surveyed and platted the town.

Danville is notable for being the location of the writing and signing of Kentucky’s first constitution, in 1792, the same year Kentucky became a state, breaking away from Virginia. A park at the center of town known as Constitution Square, was the original location of events, and contains several original and replica buildings from that time, including a post office, courthouse, and meeting house.

An emblem for 911, the nationally recognized phone number for police, fire, and medical emergency services, dispatch, and first responders is emblazoned with raised brick on a brick-walled building for a police station in a small rural American Midwestern town.
