Shelbyville, Kentucky, is a vibrant city with a blend of historic charm and modern amenities. Located about 30 miles east of Louisville, it serves as the county seat of Shelby County.
Shelbyville is named after Isaac Shelby, a prominent figure in American history. Isaac Shelby was a soldier and statesman who played a significant role during the American Revolutionary War and later became the first Governor of Kentucky.
The historic Stovall Cabin, was built in 1873 by Edwin Stovall, and was originally designed as a two story structure, but was reconfigured to the present dimensions as a result of deterioration of the original facade. The cabin was originally located in Radcliff, Kentucky. Saunders Springs, a nature preserve is located just on the edge of the Fort Knox military base.
An abandoned and burned out building that caught fire in downtown Louisville. This view caught my eye, because it captures just how close urban decay and abandonment can be to another section of the city that is very modern and well maintained. The large skyscraper behind the burned out building is part of a large medical arts complex that spans multiple city blocks and contains many of the city’s and state’s largest hospitals and most advanced medical facilities.
This building stood in this condition for at least a year, and may still be there today.
