A James Rifled Cannon located on the Chickamauga Civil War Battlefield, near Chattanooga, Tennessee. The Battle of Chickamauga was fought between September 18-20, 1863, between the Union Army commanded by Major General William Rosecrans, and the Confederate Army commanded by General Braxton Bragg. The Battle was a major defeat for the Union forces, with more than 35,000 troops killed, wounded or declared missing/captured from both sides.

A Civil War cannon sits on Lookout Mountain, overlooking the Tennessee River and the City of Chattanooga, Tennessee. The cannon battery pictured was used by the Confederate Army to bombard Union supply trains, and troops. General Ulysses S. Grant was ultimately able to defeat the Confederate troops stationed here in the Battles of Lookout Mountain and Missionary Ridge, which freed Chattanooga from a months long siege, and opened up the South to the advancing Union Army.
