A stylized view of the Handcart Pioneer Monument Statue by Torleif Soviren Knaphus. The monument is remembrance of Mormon pioneers who crossed the American West with little more than what could be carried in handicart similar to that pictured. Between 1846 and 1868, approximately 10% of the emigrants coming from the East. Most handcart pioneers were poor emigrants from Scotland, England, Wales and Scandinavia.

The statue is located at Temple Square in downtown Salt Lake City, Utah, on the south side, between the LDS Temple and the Tabernacle.

Grawemeyer Hall was built in 1926, and currently houses adminstrative offices of the university president, provost, and vice presidents. The building is named for Charles Grawemeyer, a major benefactor to the University. At one time it served as the University’s library. The building was modeled after Thomas Jefferson’s Rotunda on the grounds of the University of Virginia. And on its steps, stands one of the original castings of Auguste Rodin’s the Thinker.

The University of Louisville is a public research university founded in 1798, via a charter by the Kentucky General Assembly. The university moved to its current location, the Belknap campus in 1923, and became a public state university in 1970.

The university is home to the Louisville Cardinals, and includes athletic programs for baseball, football and soccer. As of 2013 the Cardinals have won 50 Big East Championships across all sports.

The following speech from President Roosevelt is carved in stone at the World -War II Memorial in Washington, D.C.- Pearl Harbor – December 7, 1941, a date which live in infamy…no matter how long it may take us to overcome this premeditated invasion, the American people, in their righteous might, will win through to absolute victory – President Franklin D. Roosevelt.

President Roosevelt was the only president in American history to serve four terms, from 1933, to 1945, encapsulating a period that included the Great Depression and the second World War.
