Constructed between 1914-1922, the Lincoln Memorial was fashioned after a Greek Doric Temple, and sits west of the reflecting pool on the National Mall in Washington D.C. The temple contains a large statue of President Lincoln along with the words from two of his famous speeches, the Gettysburg Address and his Second Inaugural Address. Lincoln’s Statue was carved by the Piccirilli Brothers. The Memorial was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1966.
